Meet Arlo Van Beek, the Pioneer Memorial Home’s Facility Manager. Following his 28-year supervisory housekeeping role at Northwestern College, Arlo was more than excited and felt prepared to serve the Pioneer Memorial Home when he began his role in March 2019. As the facility manager, Arlo not only maintains the property, but leads it to becoming a better organization through its reputation.

In his free time, Arlo enjoys landscaping and small building projects, making him a valuable asset to the residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home. He also loves helping with the displays and maintenance at the Dutch American Heritage Museum where he has served as the president since 2008. Getting to know each and every one of his residents helped Arlo fall in love with his role at the Pioneer Memorial Home. Arlo says, “I very much enjoy the time I spend talking with the residents and learning their story. I learn so much about them and area history.” Arlo can frequently be found in the dining room greeting each resident as they arrive for their meal and enjoying one of his favorite meals of French dip sandwiches.

Arlo can confidently say that residents enjoy their time at the Pioneer Memorial Home. “I so enjoy hearing the laughing and cheering during the weekly BINGO game,” he says. “It is so much fun to see and hear the residents having fun.”
